China Airlines

On December 16, 1959, a group of retired servicemen from the R.O.C. Air Force founded -”China Airlines” (CAL), the first locally owned airline in Taiwan, ending the foreign monopoly on civil aviation. Today, CAL is the largest civil airline in Taiwan with the most international destinations and passengers among all local operators. CAL headquarters and its main hub are located at the Taoyuan International Airport. CAL mainly operates international passenger and freight routes but also has peripheral businesses such as ground handling, air freight, air kitchen, aircraft maintenance, and hotel management services as well as onboard duty-free sales. At the end of November 2015, the CAL fleet consisted of 90 aircraft, including 69 passenger and 21 freight planes. The average age of the fleet is 10.2 years old. By 2016, 14 A350-900 passenger aircraft will join the fleet to make CAL fleet younger and reduce the impact to the environment. With respect to route management, CAL operates codeshare flights to provide passenger and freight routes to 118 destinations, covering 29 countries and 4 continents around the globe. These destinations include 65 in Asia excluding Taiwan, 31 in the Americas, 10 in Europe, 7 in Oceania and 5 in Taiwan.
